Acceptable Quality Disclosure

Firstly - thank you for reading and considering a new custom cable from Kool Keys.

Kool Keys cables are all hand made, and there is no autmation in the production process whatsoever, so there will be small differences from batch to batch, or even cable to cable. The minimum acceptable quality parameters are listed below.

Length:  Listed length will be within 2cm or 3/4inch for host side cable, and 10mm for device side cables.   Host side cables are listed as an overall length including connectors.  Device side cables are listed as lengths excluding connectors.

Cerakote quality:  There shall be no obvious ingress of dirt or particle contamination on Cerakoted surfaces when examining with the naked eye, and nothing exceeding 0.01mm on magnified viewing.    On Lemo connectors, the ends of the male plug that enter the female plug are deliberately Cerakoted far more thinly than the main body.  This is to allow the smooth fitment of the connectors without binding or sticking.  Therefore, marking and abrasion on this part is possible with some Cerakote formulas.  This is normal, and not something that is visible when in normal use.  As each cable is thoroughly tested before shipment, these marks may already exist before you yourself use the cable.  This is acceptable and does not mean that the cable is not "new".

Sleeving Quality:  All sleeving should be even and undamaged across the entire length.  Be aware however, that with coiled cables, certain types of sleeving may be "distorted" on tight bends and the gaps in the cable weave more obvious in such places.  This is normal, especially with Techflex sleeving on tight bends.

Colour Matching:  All colour matching should pass any visual inspection in daylight.

Colour matching is done in direct sunlight. Use of discontinuous spectrum light sources such as fluorescent or low CRI LEDs (particularly RGB white LEDs) should not be used to evaluate colour fidelity as metameric failure becomes a factor.

Certain ABS plastics are prone to fade or colour change with age and UV exposure, and also resin mixing tolerances are not perfect for any manufacturer from batch to batch, so one round of a keycap set may be slightly different from the next. Being different materials than the keycaps, Cerakote and sleeving may also appear different in certain lighting due to differences in surface texture.  We have done all we can within the limits of practicality to ensure the best colour match, but minute differences may sometimes be beyond our control.
